ARC believes in limiting barriers to education and support to defenders throughout the country. Previously, our Mitigation Training Series had been available only in Baltimore, MD. In providing this training in Houston, TX free of charge, it is our goal to provide defenders easy access to learning about the best practices of mitigation investigation. We believe that each attendee will leave better equipped to defend their clients whether representing those charged with capital crimes, children, or others in our communities faced with potential punishments for any criminal charge. Participants will leave able to utilize new knowledge and resources, and having access to a broader network of support. The training will include topics such as investigation fundamentals, the role of trauma in our work, race and unconscious bias in the criminal legal system, developing a narrative in presenting a defense, and other key issues.

Space is limited, so please contact us immediately (esf@advancechange.org) if your plans change after registering so that others who are interested in participating can attend.

Please also note on your registration form if you intend to seek continuing education credit for this training. We will not be able to apply to any agency or association without having received a request.

Though attendees will be responsible for their own travel and lodging, we are currently working to confirm a group rate at a nearby hotel. Please indicate on your registration form if you would like to receive instructions to register under the group rate.
