The Tennessee Office of the Post-Conviction Defender is accepting applications for an Assistant Post-Conviction Defender position.

The OPCD is an independent agency of the Tennessee state government. The agency represents people sentenced to death in Tennessee and provides non-case-specific assistance and educational resources to appointed counsel in capital cases. Direct representation focuses on the investigation and presentation of collateral claims in state courts, primarily in post-conviction proceedings. Federal Defender Position

Opening at the Federal Defenders of New York for an Assistant Federal Defender attorney position in the Manhattan office of the Southern District of New York. For approximately 18-24 months, the attorney will work exclusively on a trial-level federal capital case with an emphasis on legal research and writing. After the conclusion of the case, the attorney will transition to trial or appeals work depending on the needs of the office and the interests of the applicant. We are particularly interested in candidates with appellate and/or capital habeas experience. Salary based on experience and federal pay scale. Excellent benefits. Minimum qualification: Law school graduate with 2 years work experience and demonstrated interest in indigent criminal defense. EOE. Will respond only if selected for interview. No calls or faxes. The Capital Trials Expert Panel of the federal public defender system seeks an experienced capital litigator to provide training, consultation, and support to attorneys in Federal Defender Organizations (FDOs) and CJA panel attorneys appointed to represent persons charged with federal capital crimes. Capital Resource Counsel (CRC) is employed as an assistant federal defender in an FDO and works in coordination with the Federal Death Penalty Resource Counsel Project (FDPRC). CRC also provides direct representation in federal capital cases, as time permits, by serving as co-counsel with FDO staff attorneys and, with the approval of the Capital Trials Expert Panel, CJA panel attorneys.
